Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence senior Antuane Rambus (2) catches a touchdown pass against Detroit Leadership Academy on Friday.
Senior Corey Jackson connected with senior Antuane Rambus for an 87-yard touchdown to open the scoring less than two minutes into the game. The conversion failed to give the Pioneers a 6-0 lead.
Senior Davion Tucker forced a fumble and junior Devin Burch returned it 20 yards for a touchdown with 5:02 left in the first quarter. Jackson found senior Raejon Lavender in the corner of the end zone for the conversion to make the score 14-0.
The skies opened up at the end of the quarter with driving rain and lighting. Once the rain finally stopped, the remainder of the game was postponed due to darkness to Saturday afternoon.
After the restart on Saturday, Jackson connected with Rambus for a 17-yard touchdown pass. The conversion failed, making the score 20-0.
With less than a minute left in the half, Rambus returned a Cougar punt
to the nine-yard line. Jackson immediately tossed a touchdown pass to Lavender and then connected with sophomore Micale McClure for the conversion to increase the lead to 28-0.
The Cougars scored two late touchdowns to make the final 28-14.
Edison awaits its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 6, Region 24, District 48 playoff seeding and game assignment for next week. The playoff schedule will be announced Sunday.
Other schools in the district include Algonac, Detroit Collegiate Preparatory at Northwestern, Detroit Pershing, Durand, Flint Hamady, Southfield Bradford Academy, and No. 4-ranked Warren Michigan Collegiate.
Michigan Collegiate is expected to get the No. 1 seed and Edison is expected to get the No. 2 seed.
