Detroit Central players and coaches pose with their 2019 Detroit Public School League championship trophy on Friday.

   Detroit Central dominated Detroit Henry Ford 36-0 to earn the Detroit Public School League Division 2 Football Championship on Friday, Oct. 25, at Detroit Renaissance’s William Douglas Hill Field.

   Junior Elijah Grainger tossed three first-half touchdown passes as the Trailblazers (8-1) took a commanding 24-0 lead.

   Clarkston found junior Kenyatta McKeever for a 35-yard touchdown pass with 5:41 left in the first quarter.

   Senior Orlando Clarkston rushed for an 11-yard touchdown to make the score 12-0 with 7:01 left in the second quarter.

   Grainger tossed a 26-yard touchdown pass to junior Jalen Strickland with 52 seconds left in the half.

   Central got the ball back immediately on the ensuing kickoff with junior tight end and defensive end Sincere Strimple recovering a fumble at the

 

 

Henry Ford 43-yard line. Grainger tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to junior Justyz Tuggle with 14 seconds left in the half.

   Central had another short field to work with to start the second half after a short punt. It took over at the Henry Ford 36. Clarkston’s 23-yard run set up senior Alexander Jones’ five-yard touchdown run for a 30-0 lead.

   Central’s defensive ends Strimpel and sophomore Judah Daniels and caused problems for Henry Ford quarterbacks throughout the game, getting multiple sacks.

   Jones finished the scoring with a 21-yard touchdown run with 1:41 left in the game.

   Central hosts Detroit Loyola (4-4) in its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 7 district playoff opener. Henry Ford  hosts Clawson (6-3) in its district opener.
