   Junior Athony Garrett connected with junior Shenard Foster for a touchdown with 7:56 left in the fourth quarter to lift Detroit Loyola to a 26-22 victory over Catholic High School League AA Division rival Dearborn Divine Child on Friday, Sept. 25, at Divine Child.

   Loyola improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. Divine Child fell to 0-2/0-2.

   Junior Jason Hardy intercepted Divine Child with 1:20 left to seal the win. The Bulldog defense also had a big stop with 4:25 left, halting the Falcons’ fake punt on fourth down at the 44.

 

  Garrett hit senior Roger Martin for a 13-yard touchdown with 3:12 left in the first to take an early 6-0 lead as the extra point was blocked.

   After Divine Child scored to take a 7-6 lead, Garrett connected with Foster to take back the lead at 13-7.

   Divine Child scored late in the first half to make the score 14-13 at halftime.

   A Loyola touchdown in the third made the score 19-14, but Divine Child retook the lead at 22-19.

    Loyola travels to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a league game. It will be Cranbrook’s season-opener.
