Division 8 No. 9-ranked Clarkston Everest Collegiate pounded Catholic High School League Intersectional 2 Division rival Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 65-30 in football action on Friday, Sept. 24, at Liggett.
Senior Nathan Beggs rushed for a 26-yard touchdown to open the scoring for Everest. Senior Joey Thibodeau added the extra point.
Beggs then rushed for a one-yard touchdown and conversion to increase the lead to 15-0.
Liggett scored and made the conversion to make the score 15-8 Everest after one quarter.
Freshman Jimmy Nedwick returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown to start the second quarter. Freshman Patrick Cooper caught a pass from senior Johnny Nedwick for the conversion.
Beggs scored his third touchdown of the day from 36 yards out and Thibodeau kicked the extra point to increase the lead to 30-8.
Liggett answered with a touchdown pass play and made the conversion
to make the score 30-16.
Everest scored again before halftime on a 27-yard touchdown run and extra point by Thibodeau.
Liggett scored first in the second half to make the score 37-24.
Thibodeau tossed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Johnny Nedwick and Beggs ran for the conversion as Everest went up 45-24.
Liggett found the end zone again to close the gap to 45-30.
It was all Everest from that point.
Beggs rushed for a 38-yard touchdown, his fourth of the game, to increase the lead to 52-30 at the end of the third quarter. Beggs finished with 160 yards rushing.
The Mountaineers added two late touchdowns as Jimmy Nedwick rushed for a seven-yard touchdown and freshman Alexander Wolschleger finished the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown run.
Everest improved to 2-0 in league play and 4-1 overall. Liggett fell to 0-3/2-3.
Everest hosts Marine City Cardinal Mooney (2-1/4-1) on Friday, Oct. 1. Mooney beat Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 33-7 on Friday.
