Detroit Cody used big plays to pound Detroit Public School League Division 2 rival Detroit Communication & Media Arts 38-6 on Friday, Sept. 17, at Detroit Renaissance.

    Cody improved to 2-0/3-1 with the victory.

   Senior Narei White rushed for a two-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Junior Kenyea Davis ran for the conversion to make the score 8-0.

   Junior Jamrion Jennings connected with junior Kenneth Davis for a 12-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 14-0. The conversion attempt failed.

   Kenyea Davis later found the end zone from two yards out as the Comets took a 20-0 lead at halftime.

   Kenyea Davis rushed for another touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the second half on a 58-yard run.

   Later in the third quarter, Cody held CMA out of the end zone with a goal-line stand, getting the ball back on the one-yard line. Jennings then ran for a 99-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 32-0.

   Jennings connected with Kenneth Davis for a 75-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

   Cody hosts Detroit Pershing (2-0/2-2) on Friday, Sept. 24.

A single positive COVID-19 test result sidelined almost 50 Detroit Cass Tech players and left the Technicians with just 16 players, including six

freshman who had never played in a varsity game. Only two were starters. Renaissance sophomore quarterback Tyler Wright scored on a two-yard touchdown run and threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Juwan Croxton with 39 seconds left for the game-winning points. Renaissance is 1-1/1-2. Cass Tech is 0-2/2-2.

Detroit Southeastern 14, Detroit Henry Ford 6: De’sean Matthews had 13 carries for 128 yards and two touchdowns, Isaiah Clemmons had seven carries for 61 yards and eight tackles and Terrence Hayes had 11 tackles for Southeastern (0-1/1-3). Henry Ford is 0-4.
