   Riverview Gabriel Richard raced to an early 26-0 lead and cruised to a dominating 54-24 victory over Detroit University Preparatory to earn its first football win of the season on Friday, Sept. 10, at Gabriel Richard.

   Senior Nick Szczechowski opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run. Freshman Nicholas Sobush found the end zone a few minutes later from three yards out to increase the Pioneers’ lead to 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.

   Szczechowski rushed for two more touchdowns (30 yards and 37 yards) to put the Pioneers ahead 26-0 with 7:37 left in the second quarter.

 

   University Prep finally got on the board late in the second quarter. The score was 33-14 Gabriel Richard at halftime.

   Szczechowski finished with 196 yards rushing and five touchdowns. He added three receptions for 23 yards.

   Junior quarterback Nick Wisniewski was 9 for 18 passing for 102 yards and he ran for 88 yards on eight carries.

   Defensively, senior Brendan Hills had nine tackles and junior Aramis Lackey added seven tackles, two for losses.

   Gabriel Richard (0-0/1-2) opens its Catholic High School League Intersectional 1 Division schedule on Friday, Sept. 17, hosting Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard (0-0/0-3).
