Detroit Denby pounded Detroit Public School League rival Detroit Cody 34-0 in its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 5 district playoff opener on Friday, Oct. 30, at Denby.
Denby advances to host St. Clair Shores South Lake in a district semifinal on Friday, Nov. 4.
Senior Keyon Hammond opened the scoring for Denby with a 52-yard touchdown run early in the game. Freshman quarterback Brandon Houston ran in the conversion to make the score 8-0.
Hammond finished with 278 yards combined rushing and receiving with
two rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns.
Houston had 186 passing yards with two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.
Senior Dejuan Swilling-Young had three sacks, two forced fumbles and six tackles for a loss. Senior Javier Johnson had 11 total tackles and three sacks.
South Lake (5-2) beat Clawson 48-21 in its district opener to advance.
Warren Lincoln (4-3) travels to Marine City (6-1) in the other district semifinal.
