   University of Detroit Jesuit rallied to beat Grosse Pointe North 28-14 in its Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 2 district playoff opener on Friday, Oct. 30, at North.

   Jesuit (3-4) advances to host Oak Park (1-6) in a district semifinal on Friday, Nov. 4.

   North got on the board first with a one-yard touchdown run by senior JaVontae Stewart with 1:24 left in the first quarter.

   Junior quarterback Patrick McVeigh tied the score with a four-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The touchdown was set up with big pass plays to junior Chris Mutebi and  junior Shawn Smith.

 

   North regained the lead with 1.4 seconds left in the half as senior John Bonnell returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown to go up 14-7.

   Jesuit dominated the second half, outscoring North 21-0 to earn the win.

   McVeigh finished with 25 carries for 168 yards, Mutebi had three catches for 73 yards and senior Drew Kremhelmer had four tackles for the Cubs.

   Oak Park upset Grosse Pointe South 35-27 in its district opener to advance.

   Wyandotte Roosevelt (5-1) hosts Detroit Renaissance (3-4) in the other district semifinal.
