Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence junior Jordan Kennedy (5) runs for a gain against Detroit Cody on Friday.

   Detroit Edison Public School Academy Early College of Excellence pounded Detroit Cody 44-6 on Friday, Oct. 22, at Edison to improve to 6-3 and conclude their regular season.

   Junior Jordan Kennedy had 11 tackles,  two interceptions, one for a touchdown, and had 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns to lead Edison. Junior Micale McClure had 150 total yards and two rushing touchdowns. Junior Rodney Jackson had a kick return touchdown for Edison. Most of the second half was played under a running clock.

   With the win, Edison earned a Michigan High School Athletic

 

 

Association Division 6 playoff spot, sitting at No. 28 of 32 spots with a

point total of 36.125. Cody (4-5) was on the outside of making the Division 5 playoffs, sitting at No. 40, with a score of 30.736.

   Edison will travel to Ecorse (6-3) in its Division 6, Region 4, District 2 matchup.

   The Pioneers finished 6-3 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, winning two playoff games before falling in their district title game.

   For the first year, the Michigan High School Athletic Association implemented a new points system that rewards teams for quality victories and playing a tough schedule. Previously, teams with six victories automatically qualified for the playoffs.
