Mountaineers climb to playoffs

Football: Clarkston Everest Collegiate beats Marine City Cardinal Mooney 62-20 on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018

 

   Division 8 No. 2-ranked Clarkston Everest Collegiate earned its sixth-straight Michigan High School Athletic Association football playoff berth with a dominating 62-20 victory over Catholic High School League Intersectional 2 Division foe Marine City Cardinal Mooney on Saturday, Sept. 29, at East China Stadium.

   Six different Everest players scored touchdowns on the day.

   Freshman Jimmy Neme found the end zone three times to lead the Mountaineers. Senior Josh Legg scored two touchdowns and rushed for 99 yards. Sophomore Giovanni Mastromatteo, sophomore Michael McGrath, freshman Joey Thibodeau, and senior Mike Jones also found the end zone in the game. Mastromatteo gained 70 yards rushing, 52 yards receiving, and was 4 for 6 passing for 58 yards in the game.

   Everest (6-0/2-0) is coming off a district championship season and is currently averaging 47 points a game. They host Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes on Friday, Oct. 5, in a battle for first place in the division.
